What?
What?
Comparing COVID-19 to H1N1, it is an entirely different beast. It is considerably more transmittable and more lethal than H1N1. The incubation period for COVID-19 is 2-14 days. Reported symptoms are very similar to the flu (fever, cough, fatigue, and dyspnea).

Risk factors include older patients and those with chronic medical conditions (10.5% for those with CV disease, 7% for diabetes, and 6% each for HTN, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancer).
So What?
So What?
With the incubation period being so sporadic, and especially if the carrier is unaware/not showing symptoms, the infection/transmission rate is high. This will then cause complications for the geriatric and immuncompromised populations.

The rate of infection is also alarming for the health care industry. Not to mention, this pandemic also causes many social and financial concerns.
Now What?
Now What?
Social distancing and self isolation is paramount to stop the spread of this virus. It is important for every person globally to adopt these measures, as well as hand-washing and other general hygiene practices.

Health care facilities need to prepare for the influx of patients. Testing measures also need to be put in place. The facilities will also need to put isolation precautions in place, meaning restricting visitors an nonessential personnel into the facility.

Why: the importance
Why: the importance
It is of upmost importance for the general public to practice the guidelines set forth by the CDC and WHO to flatten the curve of the spread of the disease. This will delay and reduce the outbreak peak. This will also not overwhelm the health care industry.
What: concepts, facts, and procedures
What: concepts, facts, and procedures
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of the virus that has not been previously identified in humans. This virus presents as a common cold to severe respiratory diseases, which can overwhelm the health care industry. As a health care administrator, planning the course of action for your facility is paramount.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The virus spreads mainly from person-to-person (close contact or respiratory droplets). Avoiding close contact and washing your hands often will help protect yourself and decrease the spread of the disease. Disinfection of common surfaces will help with community spread disease.
